I can totally relate, I’ve been there myself. But I’m confident that with some guidance and a desire to learn, you’ll be able to overcome your fears and create the life you want.

How I got started traveling
Growing up, the only traveling I’d done was with my family: we spent Sunday afternoons in nearby Washington, DC, visited both sets of grandparents in northwestern Pennsylvania, and vacationed at the beach every summer. I had never planned a trip myself until the summer before my senior year of high school.
Until you plan your first trip, you don’t know what you don’t know
I was talking to my mom one night while she was making dinner. When I asked her if we’d be going to the beach that summer like we did every year, she said she was sorry but she couldn’t afford to go for more than a day (my parents had split up the previous year and money was tight).
I really wanted to go for a week, not just a day, so I told my mom that I’d pay for the trip. She stopped what she was doing and looked at me with skepticism, chuckled, and sarcastically said, “sure you will” and considered the conversation over.
Her response both angered and motivated me. “I’ll show her!” I thought to myself. Although I was working part-time at Baskin-Robbins earning a measly $4 an hour, I was determined.
Long story short, despite my inexperience and low pay, I worked my butt off for the next 6 weeks and earned enough money to treat my mom and two brothers to a week-long all-expenses-paid vacation in Ocean City, Maryland.
We all enjoyed the trip but looking back, it could’ve been a lot better. It was my first time planning a trip so I didn’t know what I didn’t know (ya know?).
Since that trip, I’ve been able to travel extensively in the U.S. and abroad, even when money was tight. I’ve had a lot of adventures and made wonderful memories along the way.
Mistakes? Yep, I’ve made some doozies! But the most important thing is I learned from each and every one of them, which made the next trip even better. I share my experiences, lessons learned, and best travel tips here and on YouTube to help you save time, money, and frustration.
