When I visit a destination, I enjoy a few specific things:
- Learning about its history
- Admiring the beautiful architecture
- Finding the area’s hidden gems
- Dining at a local restaurant
- Discovering murals and local art

I did all of the above in Petersburg, including discovering this amazing mural when I was exploring the Courthouse Histiric District. This work of art is so eye-catching and fun 🙂

Sunrise is one of my favorite times of the day. It’s so quiet and peaceful.

When I travel, I make it a point to watch the sunrise at least once if I’m in a location that offers a good view. This sunrise timelapse was filmed from my hotel balcony in southern Maryland. Gorgeous!

This is one of my favorite photos I took when I was in Provence, France. It was taken in Banon, a quaint village . I just had to stop and capture this picture when I saw this beautiful, rustic doorway.

Do you like to explore or do you just stick to the roads you know? 🗺️

I’m innately curious, so I always want to see what interesting new-to-me things are around the corner. That’s how I found this charming stone church. ⛪️

Grace Church in North Garden, Virginia (outside Charlottesville) is slightly off the beaten path on a road I’ve frequently passed. Curiosity finally got the better of me and I made that turn only to come upon this hidden gem. 💎

This charming Episcopal church was built in 1921 and has an active congregation.

While walking around the grounds of the church, I saw a huge tree with cut wood stumps in a circle beneath it (photo #3). I’m guessing they gather here for outdoor classes or discussions class with the students gathered around the teacher. 🌳

The next time you’re out and about, turn down that unknown road and explore a bit. You never know what you’ll discover!

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, a day meant to help make kindness the norm.

Random Acts of Kindness don’t have to be grand gestures. You can practice kindness by:

💫 Holding the door for someone
💫 Letting someone ahead of you in line
💫 Letting someone merge into traffic ahead of you with a smile
💫 Giving up your seat on a bus or subway
💫 Shopping and dining at small, local businesses
💫 Leaving a generous tip for your server
💫 Posting a positive review online for a shop or restaurant
💫 Offering to take a photo of someone (pictured here)
💫 Helping someone stow or retrieve their carry-on when on an airplane
💫 Showing your appreciation to the flight crew by giving them chocolates, etc.
💫 Tipping the hotel housekeeping staff (they work hard!)
💫 Packing your patience. Many places are still understaffed, so wait times may be longer than you like.

LOVE is all around…in VA ❤️

As you may or may not know, Virginia's tagline has been "Virginia is for Lovers" for many years. To expand on this saying, Virginians developed a campaign known as LOVEworks in 2015. LOVEworks was created to prove that “love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.”

Some LOVE signs are simple; others are more creative. Often, the artists who design them use the opportunity to infuse characteristics unique to the area where the sign will be.

When I travel, it's always fun to look for them (aka seek them out) and snap a photo for my collection. With "300+ LOVEworks around the state, LOVE can be found in every corner of the Commonwealth."

Fall is my favorite season. I love the cooler weather and especially the jewel-toned foliage.

Since moving from northern to central Virginia, I’ve been enjoying the more rural surroundings. My BF and I have also been enjoying relaxing scenic drives and overnight trips as often as we can.

Some of my favorite things about Virginia:
• lots cool cities & towns to explore
• stunning scenery (We came across the stunning view in the photo on our way to @revalationvineyards)
• a thriving wine industry (I’m working my way through all 300+)
• tons of history

[⬅️ Swipe] If you enjoy history, photography, and/or the outdoors, Harpers Ferry, WV, should be on your list of places to visit. It’s a fun place to explore and great destination for a day trip if you live in Northern VA, MD, WV, or DC.

Harpers Ferry National Historic Park (@harpersferrynps) is located at the junction of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers and the intersection of the Appalachian Trail, the C&O Canal Towpath, and the Potomac Heritage Trail.

The bridge (photo #1) connects West Virginia and Maryland and its not uncommon to encounter hikers tackling a portion of (or hiking the entire) Appalachian Trail. Sweethearts also enjoy the beautiful views from the bridge and sometimes leave a lock behind to commemorate their love.

🌟PRO TIP: For great view/photo opportunities, either:
- follow the steps in town up past St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church to Harpers Cemetery at the top of the hill
OR
- hike up to the top of one of the trails to get a view of the river and historic downtown area

One of my favorite activities when I travel is to take photos (and videos) of the people, places & things I encounter. TBH, though, it can be difficult to put down the camera (or phone) and just live in the moment.

In April, I combined my 2 passions - travel & photography - when I took a @photoenrichment photography tour of Chicago run by travel photographer and tour operator @ralphvelasco.

The tour was great (thanks, Ralph!), Chicago was awesome, I met some new people, and I came back with some wonderful memories (both in my head and in photo/video form). I couldn’t have asked for a better 1st trip to the Windy City.

There’s nothing better than starting the day enjoying a gorgeous sunrise like this. Whenever I stay at a place t where I can get a view like this, I set my alarm and get up to watch the sunrise at least once. Its a great way to enjoy some quiet time before the day starts. This is one of my simple pleasures and travel rituals. I highly recommend it! And if you can share it with someone special, it’s even better.
